It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

I am reading the book The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy With Autism.
The teachers in my school are having a book discussion about it next week.

I am also reading Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo. I am reading it to my daughter. We really enjoy the characters, a girl, her crazy mother, the neighbor, the neighbor's nephew, and a squirrel named Ulysses- who may be a superhero.

Journey by Aaron Becker

Journey is a beautiful new wordless picture book by Aaron Becker debuting this year and I was able to share it with all of my classes in the library this week.

I have been using the iPad app Nearpod to create interactive book responses for the students to use as I share books. For this book I used Nearpod to focus on the way the illustrations tell the entire story. The students had to make predictions, follow the story arc, infer character traits, and ask questions about the story. They did an amazing job. On the last slide of the Nearpod activity I included a link to the book trailer. The students were captivated.

It is wonderful when a book comes by that is a perfect and beautiful story without a single word. Standing ovation!

Just in case you need more- here is the making of Journey.
